The sinus lift made Herceg Novi recognizable among patients whose lowered maxillary sinus floor did not allow the installation of a dental implant.
What does a sinus lift mean?
Sinus lift Herceg Novi is an intervention that is performed in the case of a reduction in the volume of the alveolar bone of the lateral part of the upper jaw. Bone tissue deficit occurs due to tooth loss (most often premolars and molars) and long-term delay in adequate therapy.
This oral surgical procedure means lifting the membrane of one or both maxillary sinuses when they are too close to the jaw.
The goal of the sinus lift is to provide space for bone extension, that is, the formation of thicker bone for the placement of a dental implant. Although very delicate, this intervention is carried out at the Dr. Veselinović Dental Clinic with great safety and a success rate of as much as 94%.
In which patients is sinus floor elevation indicated?
During the extraction of premolars and molars, resorption of the jawbone, i.e. a decrease in the volume of bone tissue, usually occurs over time. Such patients are the first candidates for a sinus lift in Herceg Novi.
Periodontopathy as a very serious and progressive alveolar disease, also leads to jaw bone loss and is an indication for raising the sinus floor.
Patients in whom the maxillary sinus is too close to the maxilla or the maxillary bone is naturally thin or damaged are ideal candidates for a sinus lift.
Apart from these indications, congenital lack of teeth, maxillofacial trauma, cysts, and tumors can be the reason for this intervention.
How to perform a sinus lift
As in the case of many other procedures in the field of oral surgeryand implantology, before starting the sinus lift, it is necessary to take an X-ray and a CT scan. Based on these images, the oral surgeon determines the height and width of the alveolar bone and assesses the condition of the maxillary sinus.
Sinus lift is a complex intervention and should be performed by a surgeon whose knowledge and experience can answer all possible challenges and complications. One of them is damage to the paranasal cavities, which is why all precautions must be taken when moving the sinus floor upwards.
In order to perform a sinus lift, the specialists of the Dr. Veselinović Dental Clinic usually use one of two well-known and proven techniques: the transcrestal method and the lateral approach.
The first method means access to the maxillary sinus through the implant bed. The second technique involves access through a trepanation hole. The central wall of the sinus is raised by about 10 mm, thus creating the appropriate height for placing the implant.
The sinus floor is then enlarged, usually with an artificial bone graft (granules) or their combination with the patient’s bone tissue. Sometimes these grafts are mixed together with PRF (fibrin derived from the patient’s blood).
After the sinus lift, the patient is instructed to take care of irritation and shaking out secretions from the nose so that the bone graft does not move or the sutures break. He is also prescribed medication to eliminate the risk of sinus infection.
Which type of anesthesia is used for sinus?
Sinus lift is usually performed under local anesthesia, but also under analgosedation in patients with exaggerated fear. In both cases, the operation is painless. Additional security is provided by the knowledge that the oral surgeons of the Dr. Veselinović Dental Clinic are specialists with exceptional experience and knowledge of all techniques for performing this intervention.
This is precisely one of the key reasons for patients from Ireland, America, and other countries to fly across the ocean, come to our office and get the implants they have been waiting for a long time.
Sinus lift Herceg Novi – Is simultaneous installation of implants possible?
In certain patients, it is possible to perform a sinus lift at the same time and to insert the implants immediately afterwards. However, in most cases, a healing period of 6–9 months is necessary, during which the bone graft will fuse with the patient’s alveolar bone. When the conditions are met, an implant procedure follows.
In recent decades, dental implants have had an advantage over other types of dental restorations. They are usually made of titanium (sometimes zirconium) and as such are the best substitutes for lost teeth. They achieve good stability of the teeth, a natural appearance of the jaws and normal chewing and speech.
