Dr. Veselinović’s dental clinic consists of a team of dedicated, diligent and passionate professionals, educated to work in various areas of dentistry.
Vizil prosthesis (skeletal prosthesis) is one type of prosthetic rehabilitation for partially edentulous patients. It can be applied in both the upper and lower jaws.
It is typically recommended in cases of multiple missing teeth in the lateral regions (on one or both sides).

This partial dental replacement is ideal for patients where dental bridges cannot be placed due to improper tooth distribution. Or for those for whom jawbone augmentation and implant procedures are not considered viable options for specific reasons.
For example, immunocompromised (seriously ill) patients may not be suitable candidates for bone grafting and implant installation.
Therefore, for these patients, the vizil prosthesis is often the only option for replacing teeth and restoring jaw functionality.
What makes the vizil prosthesis unique, and how does it look?
A skeletal, vizil prosthesis is made of:
a base (skeleton) made of metal or metal alloys;
metal attachments (clasps, connectors);
acrylic components;
(metal) ceramic crowns.
The metal support structure is usually made from a cobalt-chrome-molybdenum alloy. But it can also be made from titanium or even gold. For the upper jaw, the skeleton is made in the form of a strip, while for the lower jaw, it is shaped like an arch.
The other part of the prosthesis that replaces the lost teeth is made of acrylic and other materials.
The gingiva (gums) part is made from acrylic resin. While the crowns may be made from a combination of metal and ceramic or solely from ceramic, zirconium, or composite resin.
How do the parts of the skeletal prosthesis function?
The function of the metal clasps is to secure the prosthesis to existing teeth (which are specially treated and prepared for this purpose) and to maintain its stability.
The component that matches the patient’s gingiva color and mimics it is positioned to perfectly camouflage the transition between the patient’s gums and the new artificial teeth.
Thus, the skeletal prosthesis becomes an excellent imitation of real teeth and gums. Thanks to the acrylic parts and connecting elements placed on the inside of the jaws, it looks natural and unobtrusive.
Main characteristics and advantages of the vizil prosthesis compared to traditional removable dentures
Skeletal plate dentures are a better choice than standard removable dentures due to the following properties:
excellent quality due to the metal base;
high durability (no cracking or breaking);
no deformation under chewing forces;
thinner than traditional removable dentures, thanks to the metal skeleton;
smaller in size, taking up minimal space in the oral cavity;
made in colors and shapes closely resembling the patient’s natural teeth;
they do not cover the palate (in the case of upper jaw dentures);
do not apply pressure to the gums and palate, and do not damage the alveolar ridge;
more reliable during daily use due to the presence of clasps;
do not cause irritation;
do not cause allergic reactions (biocompatibility of the metal with oral tissues);
provide satisfactory aesthetic results;
easily removed for daily oral hygiene maintenance.
Functional advantages of the skeletal prosthesis compared to the traditional removable denture
Unlike traditional removable dentures, skeletal dentures are smaller, less bulky, and take up less space in the mouth. This significantly facilitates adaptation.
Patients quickly and easily get used to them, the wearing experience is comfortable without interference, and stability is considerably higher due to the presence of attachments.
With the skeletal plate prosthesis, bite reconstruction is complete and uninterrupted: there is no unwanted shifting, falling out, or discomfort.
Additionally, the vizil prosthesis is more durable and resistant to damage compared to the traditional removable prosthesis.
Chewing function is also improved because the pressure on the gums is reduced (there is no destructive effect on the alveolar ridge), and biting forces are more evenly distributed.
This makes chewing easier, which further implies better overall body health.
Since it is removable, its practicality is undeniable: it can be easily taken off and cleaned with a brush during regular oral hygiene maintenance.

Aesthetic benefits provided by the vizil prosthesis
The aesthetic advantages of the skeletal plate prosthesis are clear, as it successfully fills the space created by tooth loss.
The vizil prosthesis is made so that all its parts align with the patient’s real teeth and gums. As a result, the difference can only be noticed with careful observation.
This especially applies to the metal attachments, which are placed on the inner side of the teeth and are not visible from the outside.

As with other prosthetic replacements, the timing of the vizil prosthesis production is also very important.
If too much time is allowed to pass, the necessary stimulation between the jaws may be insufficient. This stimulation is important not only for preserving the alignment of the bite but also for other physiological aspects.
In the absence of timely and adequate prosthetic replacement, the appearance of the face changes.
As a result, the face loses support, and the buccal (cheek) muscles prematurely relax. After some time, the face starts to „sag“ and appears exhausted and aged. This is undoubtedly a significant aesthetic disadvantage for anyone’s appearance.
If the vizil prosthesis (or another prosthetic replacement) is placed on time, all aesthetic and functional risks are eliminated. The face becomes radiant again and is filled in the appropriate areas.
For this reason, the vizil prosthesis is considered the best prosthetic solution among removable dentures.
Vizil (skeletal) prosthesis – From diagnosis to finished work
During the first specialist examination at Dr. Veselinović dental clinic, where the patient is qualified as a candidate suitable for prosthetic rehabilitation with a vizil prosthesis, our specialists will take an impression of the jaw and, together with the biomechanical specification, send it to the laboratory.
The second visit to our clinic is reserved for trying the metal skeleton and precisely determining the bite height. During this visit, an additional impression is taken to ensure the prosthesis fits perfectly.
At the third visit to our clinic, the patient tries on the completed vizil prosthesis. After any fine adjustments and corrections, it is handed over for further use, along with instructions for care and long-term use.
