And, place it in the position that naturally belongs to it in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Occlusion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>occlusal<\/strong><\/a> plane.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nIn the blog ahead of you, you will learn about all the stages of the complex, long-term therapy of extracting multiple impacted teeth from our adolescent patient.<\/p>\n<h2>Definition of impacted teeth<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Impacted teeth<\/strong> are those that fail to erupt, i.e., those that have not emerged at the right time for various reasons.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>These teeth remain trapped in the upper and\/or lower jaw (to a greater or lesser extent) and disrupt the position of adjacent teeth. They can also cause inflammatory processes (infections) and other complications.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Therefore, they must either be extracted or surgically released. Depending on the space they occupy, the size of the jaw, and the interdental (between-teeth) relationships. In other words, the type of therapy and the goals to be achieved.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>In most patients, the impacted teeth are usually wisdom teeth and canines. But they can also be other teeth.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Surgical exposure of impacted teeth and orthodontics<\/h2>\n<p>Combined <a href=\"https:\/\/drveselinovic.com\/en\/dental-interventions\/oral-surgery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>oral surgical<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/drveselinovic.com\/en\/dental-interventions\/orthodontics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>orthodontic therapy<\/strong><\/a>, carried out at the <a href=\"https:\/\/drveselinovic.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Dr. Veselinovi\u0107 dental clinic<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, began when the patient was 11 years old. In this case, three teeth were impacted (the upper left canine and the lower two premolars).<\/p>\n<p>The individualized orthodontic therapy plan initially aimed to surgically release the second left premolar (the fifth tooth). Since there was space for its growth at that position.<\/p>\n<p>Intervention on the right side had to be delayed because space for the tooth still needed to be created.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the upper canine, a special 3D scan was taken to assess the exact condition.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis showed that the tooth was positioned palatinally. It means that the crown of this canine was resting on the root of the adjacent incisor (see X-ray images below).<\/p>\n<pre>Read also: <a href=\"https:\/\/drveselinovic.com\/en\/fixed-braces-herceg-novi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Most efficient fixed braces for all ages in Herceg Novi! &gt;&gt;<\/strong><\/a><\/pre>\n<h3>How were the oral surgical and orthodontic therapies carried out?<\/h3>\n<p>This interdisciplinary therapy involved several stages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>surgical opening (exposure) of the canine;<\/li>\n<li>bringing the tooth to the surface of the jaw;<\/li>\n<li>repositioning the tooth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>X-ray images show the condition before and after placing the orthodontic appliance. Which followed the surgical exposure of the tooth \u2013 creating space through surgery.<\/p>\n<p>The surgical intervention to expose the canine was performed under local anesthesia and proceeded smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>Then, an orthodontic bracket was attached to the tooth, and the process of pulling it began using a force of 30 grams\/cm\u00b3.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2806\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2806\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2806 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/drveselinovic.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/surgical-exposure-of-impacted-teeth-dr-veselinovic-2.jpg\" alt=\"surgical exposure of impacted teeth dr veselinovi\u0107 2\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drveselinovic.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/surgical-exposure-of-impacted-teeth-dr-veselinovic-2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/drveselinovic.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/surgical-exposure-of-impacted-teeth-dr-veselinovic-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/drveselinovic.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/surgical-exposure-of-impacted-teeth-dr-veselinovic-2-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2806\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Dr. Veselinovi\u0107 dental clinic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A ligature wire (chain) was placed distally towards the fourth tooth. It was fixed with liquid material to the wire arc of the fixed appliance to encourage the pulling.<\/p>\n<p>This procedure was carried out to prevent the sliding of the wire.
