All on 6 is a well-known dental term whose meaning would be „all teeth on 6 implants“. It refers to a fixed prosthetic work placed on six implants inserted into a completely edentulous jaw.
The all on 6 procedure can be applied to both the upper and lower jaw. And, it is ideal for solving the problem of total toothlessness.

However, many prosthetic options are now available, and the one chosen depends on the condition of the patient’s jaw and teeth.
Advantages of the all on 6 system compared to removable dentures and implant-supported dentures
We will make a brief overview and hierarchy of prosthetic solutions based on their functionality.
Removable dentures
When removable dentures are mentioned, one immediately thinks of so-called „social dentures“. Which are soaked in a glass of water before going to bed and placed next to the bed. Such an image directly associates with old age and all the ailments it brings.
Fortunately, dental implantology has advanced so much that these types of dentures today are just a „necessary evil“. Which is easy to avoid.
Implant-supported dentures
Implant-supported dentures are a stronger alternative to the conventional ones mentioned earlier. Much more comfortable yet still economical.
With implant-supported dentures, the patient feels more at ease and secure. That’s because they „clip“ onto the implants and stay firmly in place.
Their stability is much higher compared to classic dentures. They cannot easily fall out, but they can still be removed and cleaned when needed.
All on 6
Compared to the aforementioned restorations, the all on 6 system leaves patients highly satisfied, and for several reasons.
First, there’s no irritation or falling out like with removable dentures.
Second, there is no removal of the prosthetic work or visibility of implant parts as with implant-supported dentures.
Third, there is an evident sense of security and comfort. The teeth are stable and will not shift or fall out under stronger bites or during speech.
Fourth, implant placement is a procedure that results in a high success rate: as much as 95%.
Why choose all on 6?
From all of the above, it is clear that patients with no teeth should not be discouraged. Modern dental prosthetics offers many possibilities for restoring lost dentition.
First, let’s consider the causes of complete toothlessness…
Teeth can be lost for various reasons: untreated cavities, periodontitis, and other diseases of the teeth and oral cavity. Also, traffic and sports injuries, drug use, serious illnesses, and so on.
Unfortunately, many patients visit a dental clinic when they have already lost most of their teeth. And little, can be done to preserve the remaining ones.
In such cases, they are extracted for the purposes of an implant-prosthetic procedure. Because they are not functional enough to carry a fixed prosthesis.
Then, as a compromise (compared to complete implantation), the installation of six implants per jaw is recommended.
Why exactly all on 6?
The all on 6 system has been proven to support a fixed prosthesis of 12 dental crowns without any risk of breaking.

In contrast, all on 4 can safely support only 8 crowns.
TIP PLUS: If you ever encounter the claim that 4 implants can easily support a bridge of 12 crowns, don’t be fooled.
Such a procedure would quickly lead to the fixed prosthesis breaking. Causing a lot of trouble and unnecessary expenses!
This is because chewing forces exert significant pressure. And, sufficient support from implants is required for such a large number of crowns.
If there are still 4 healthy natural teeth in the jaws (two on each side of the jaw), they can serve as support for the all on 4 system to carry 8 crowns.
In any case, it is necessary for the same number of teeth (natural or artificial) to be present in the opposing jaw to ensure mutual functioning.
Are you toothless and feeling hopeless? Don’t worry – you are in safe hands!
For patients with no teeth in their jaws, the all on 6 system is the best long-term solution. (The prosthesis can serve for up to 20 years, and implants last a lifetime). Very convenient and cost-effective!
By implanting three implants on each side of the jaw, the forces are evenly distributed. This ensures long-term stability of the implants and durability of the fixed crowns. Additionally, the volume of the jawbone is preserved.
And should we even mention the aesthetics of such a renewed and self-confident smile!
